The iPhone X Design & Display
The iPhone X features a revolutionary new design with a stunning edge to edge display that follows the curve of the device, right to the ends of the elegantly rounded corners. It is an all glass device, both at the front and back with a highly polished stainless steel band seamlessly wrapping around it. The glass finish also ensures that the iPhone X is water and dust resistant.
The iPhone X is the first iPhone to feature an OLED display delivering stunning colors, true blacks, a million-to-one contrast ratio . It also promises to deliver the best system-wide color management in a smartphone. The HDR display supports Dolby Vision and HDR10. Both of these features promises to make photo and video content even more amazing. True Tone dynamically adjusts the white balance of the display to display a more natural, paper-like viewing experience.
Home Button Gone – Side Button In
Another thing you’ll notice with the iPhone X is the absence of the Home button. In its place are new gestures Tap to Wake and Raise to Wake. To unlock the phone or return to the Home screen, you use Raise to Wake, then swipe up from the bottom of the display. To use the multi tasking feature, you swipe up and pause midway. In fact, wherever you are on iPhone, just swipe up from the bottom to go home.
The Home button may be gone, but there’s a new one installed on the side of the phone to perform certain activities. Tap on it to bring up Siri, double tap to bring up Apple Pay and hold it along with the Volume button to take a screenshot. You can access the Control Center by swiping down from the top right corner.
Face ID is the new powerful and secure authentication system to unlock the iPhone X. It uses two innovative features – the state-of-the-art TrueDepth camera system and A11 Bionic to accurately map and recognize a face.
Face ID also helps to securely enable Apple Pay and gain access to secure apps. This technology can adapt to physical changes in the appearance over time and can recognize faces even in the dark. So even if you change your appearance with a fancy accessory or wear a beard or makeup, Face ID will work. Plus, it cannot be spoofed by photographs, masks, and makeup.
All facial recognition processing is done locally on the device and not in the cloud to ensure user privacy. Face ID only unlocks the iPhone X when you look at it with your eyes open. If you look elsewhere when you’re unlocking the phone, it won’t work. This technology works with apps that already support Touch ID. It also makes use of facial recognition to capture your expressions and voice to send animated emoji via the new Animoji feature in Messages.
Reinvented iPhone X Camera
The iPhone X camera has some new exciting feature improvements. A new 7-megapixel TrueDepth camera enables Face ID while the 12MP rear camera is redesigned with dual OIS.
Both cameras support the Portrait mode with Portrait Lighting. This feature allows users to apply a dramatic studio lighting effect to portrait images with a shallow depth-of-field effect in five different lighting styles.
The improvements in the new camera ensure that you capture the most vibrant photos and detailed videos. The cameras are individually calibrated, with new gyroscopes and accelerometers for accurate motion tracking to deliver the ultimate AR experience. With ARKit, iOS developers can now take advantage of the TrueDepth camera to create games and apps that offer a fantastic, immersive experience.
iPhone X Performance
Thanks to A11 Bionic, the most powerful and smartest chip ever used in a smartphone, users can expect 70 percent greater performance and energy efficiency up to two hours longer than iPhone 7. A11 Bionic also integrates an Apple-designed GPU to deliver up to 30 percent faster graphics performance. All this power will perfectly enable AR apps and immersive 3D games.
iPhone X Charging & Battery Life
The future of the iPhone is wireless and Apple’s new AirPower mat, coming in 2018, can charge the iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods simultaneously. And the glass back design is the perfect setup for delivering a world-class wireless charging performance. The wireless charging works with the Qi ecosystem. Belkin and Mophie are already working to deliver two new wireless charging mats apart from the ones from Apple.
