The Unclutter UI
The Unclutter UI drops down to unveil 3 panels in one long horizontal window.
The Clipboard features 3 important sections – Clipboard History, which keeps track of everything you copy in the Mac clipboard. Clipboard Favorites is a section where you can save clips permanently for use in the future. Clipboard Content is the section where the full contents of the item you saved in the clipboard are displayed. This section also lets you edit text items you saved.
If you’re in the habit of creating temporary files to hold some information, the desktop is the most ideal place to save it. Now, you can do it in the Unclutter Files section by dragging the file to the top of the screen and dropping them in the Files section. Plus, if there are files on your Mac that you access frequently, you can put them here as well to access them faster.
You can also just create aliases to your files, rather than physically moving them. Just hold down Command+Option key while dragging a file to do that. You can also set up Unclutter to store your files in a shared folder like Dropbox. This way your files will automatically get synced across all your Macs where Unclutter is installed.
With Unclutter you can also take notes without launching Notes or any other app. Whether you need to note down a phone number, an address, a to-do item or a reminder, the Notes section is a quick place to jot them down. Here, you can find any note you saved with a keyword search. You can also set up Unclutter to store your notes in a shared folder like Dropbox. This way, your notes will automatically be available across all your Macs where Unclutter is installed.
Unclutter window doesn’t have to stay stuck at the top of screen. If you find it easier to work with the 3 sections individually, you can just drag it out and place it anywhere on the screen. These panels are not only totally detachable, they are also completely resizable. And if you’re done with the panel, just close it and it will go back to its default location. Or, you can selectively hide the panels so you have room for the ones you use more often.
If you are someone who uses keyboard shortcuts for navigation, then you can head over to the Preferences window to choose how you want to open the Unclutter UI. The app also includes a dark theme option for anyone who isn’t a fan of the light theme.
In all, Unclutter is a really neat tool that lets you take care of all those pesky files, notes and clips that you always tend to dump on your desktop. With its unobtrusive interface, easy file management system and neat organizational capabilities, Unclutter can make you more productive and better organized.
